Change Your Thoughts: They Make You Sick

change your thoughts

Have you ever wondered what would actually happen if you made the decision to change your thoughts? I’m not talking about positive thinking or pretending to be fine. I mean genuinely choosing to think in a new way. Because there’s one function you do all day long, whether you realize it or not – and it’s the very thing that’s either keeping you stuck or setting you free.

That function is thinking. You think.

And the only way to change your life is to change your thoughts.

That’s what mind training is all about.

It’s not about meditating on a mountain or becoming a positive vibes-only person.

It’s not about spiritual bypassing or pretending everything is fine when it’s not.

Mind training is about becoming aware of the thoughts you think all day long, and learning how to redirect them.

Because here’s the truth: if you don’t use your mind in the right way, you will stay stuck. You will stay confused. And very likely, you’ll stay sick: mentally, emotionally, or even physically.

What You Think Is What You Feel

Science might not agree on everything, but one thing is clear: your thoughts affect your body. Every time you think a stressful thought, your body reacts.

Your muscles tense.
Your heart rate increases.
Your immune system weakens.
Over time, those little reactions add up.

And it’s not just the “big” scary thoughts. It’s the 40,000 to 100,000 thoughts you think every single day.

Let that sink in.

You are thinking all day long. Opinions, judgments, criticisms, predictions, worries, regrets, fantasies, hopes, memories, plans: all of it falls under the category of “thought.”

And every one of those thoughts is doing something. Creating something. Fueling something.

Which means that if you want to experience something new – freedom, joy, peace, healing—you have to change your thoughts.

The Truth About “Just Describing Reality”

Now I know what you might be thinking: “But I’m just describing what’s happening around me. I’m just being honest. That person really did say that. My partner really is acting like that. The news really is that depressing.”

Sure. But the problem isn’t what you’re observing. It’s how you’re interpreting it.

Because when you think a thought, your mind doesn’t know whether it’s fact or fiction. It simply reacts. So if you keep feeding yourself negative interpretations, self-criticism, worry, or worst-case scenarios… you are bathing in mental poison.

That’s not me being dramatic. That’s what it feels like to live in a mind you can’t trust.

But I Want to Change…

Here’s where it gets tricky. Every single person I’ve ever coached tells me they want change.
They want healing. They want peace. They want to feel better.

But very few people actually want to change their thoughts.

Why?

Because changing your thoughts means taking responsibility. And that’s scary. It’s way easier to believe that someone else needs to change. That the system needs to change. That your body needs to heal first. That the world needs to be less chaotic. That your boss needs to be nicer. That your childhood needs to have been different.

But waiting for the world to change is like standing in the rain and waiting for the clouds to ask for permission.

It doesn’t work.

The only way out is in. And the only way forward is through.

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life

I used to try to change everything around me. I thought that if I changed my job, my diet, my skincare routine, my supplements, my calendar, my relationships, or my therapist… then maybe I’d feel better.

But I didn’t.

Because none of that changes what you’re thinking all day long.

And what you’re thinking is what’s creating your experience.

Not your circumstances. Not your past. Not your diagnosis.

Your thoughts.

And once I got that – once I saw it clearly – it changed everything. I stopped blaming. I stopped waiting. I stopped outsourcing my peace of mind. I stopped thinking I needed to meditate my way out of misery.

Instead, I learned how to change my thoughts – on purpose.

The Problem With Meditation (Yes, I Said It)

Let me say something controversial.

Meditation is great. It can be a beautiful practice. But it won’t change your life if you’re thinking garbage thoughts for the other 15 waking hours of the day.

If you meditate for one hour but think fear-based thoughts for the other fifteen, then guess what? You’re still practicing fear more than peace.

And the mind doesn’t care whether you’re “trying” to be spiritual or calm or loving.

It listens to repetition.

That’s why mind training works. Because it’s not about the hour you spend on the mat. It’s about the other hours—when you’re in traffic. When your child is crying. When your doctor says something triggering. When your skin flares up again. When you’re spiraling on WebMD at 2am.

Mind training helps you build awareness of what you’re thinking in those moments.

And then it gives you the tools to change your thoughts – right then and there.

Head in the Sand? That Was Me

When I first started doing this work, I didn’t want to look at what I was thinking. I wanted to believe I was “doing everything right.” I wanted someone else to give me the answer. I wanted a magic pill, a perfect routine, or a doctor who’d finally “get it.”

But eventually, I had to face the truth:

I was thinking in a way that was keeping me sick.

Not just physically. Emotionally. Spiritually. Relationally.

And when I looked, really looked, at my thoughts—something cracked open. I saw that I had been looping in the same fear stories for years. Telling myself the same lies. Believing the same judgments. Playing the same horror movie in my head again and again.

So I changed the channel.

And slowly, gently, consistently—I changed my mind.

Why You Can’t Be Saved

I say this with so much love: no one is coming to save you.

Not your partner. Not your doctor. Not your favorite coach. Not even your future self.

This is your work.

It’s your mind. And only you can train it.

You have to become the gatekeeper of your own thoughts. You have to decide what you’ll allow, and what you won’t. You have to be willing to see that the problem isn’t out there—it’s in here.

And that’s the best news you’ll ever hear.

Because if the problem is your mind, then so is the solution.

You have everything you need to feel better. To heal. To grow. To thrive.

But first—you have to change your thoughts.

Mind Training: The Missing Piece

If you’ve been doing “all the things”—meditating, journaling, affirming, vision boarding—and you’re still not seeing the change you want… you’re not alone.

Most of my clients come to me after years of trying. They’ve read the books. Listened to the podcasts. Attended the workshops. They know all the right words.

But they don’t know how to use their mind to create a new experience.

That’s where I come in.

I’m building a foundational mind training course that teaches you how to do this work step-by-step. It’s not just theory. It’s not just fluff. It’s practical, grounded, loving guidance—based on my own journey and the transformations I’ve witnessed in my students.

It teaches you exactly how to identify the thoughts that are keeping you stuck—and how to choose better ones. It helps you build new mental habits that create peace, health, and real results.
