I’m sitting here at my wobbly kitchen table (also known as my office) with wet hair after having taken a bath after yoga class. Tonight’s plan is to work on the marketing material we need for our kAAKAO chocolate launch in two weeks in Germany at the world’s largest sweets and snacks trade fair.
Tonight is going to be an exciting night, to say the least (I wrote this yesterday, Saturday night, at 4PM).
Sometimes I get the sense that my friends think I live a really glamorous, exciting life – but truth be told, I mostly hang out in my yoga pants working on whatever it is that needs my attention.
Something like this:
- Managing costs and bills and accounts and making sure that both accountants (in two different countries) have what they need
- Branding, i.e. working on kAAKAO’s story, the website (which I’ve built myself), creating logos and images and any other files that are needed for our powerpoint presentations
- Writing presentations – it’s a never ending task and a good exercise in focusing on the right things and communicating effectively
- Social media management – finding content to post, writing captions and making sure there’s a deeper purpose to everything we release. Sometimes I’m great at that and other times I feel like I’m truly worthless
- The creative stuff. Cooking, styling the food (or chocolate) and working together with a photographer or a videographer to capture it
- Constant new product development. Before launching a (chocolate) product, all the retailers and distributors want to know what’s next. Um, right. TOTALLY on top of it
- Blogging. My intention this year to do more of it, as I truly love to write
- Admin. I’m drowning..like ALL the time
- Trade fair preparations, done months in advance. Filling out forms, picking out and ordering furniture, planning the stand, finding someone to do the visuals, making sure it’s aligned with the brand. Sending out invites, booking meetings, putting together material for staff and for potential customers
- Emailing potential retailers and distributors, and then meeting them
- Writing and rewriting a business plan
- Updating (or first: writing) the financial plan and forecasting
And then there’s Helpings too, which is its own chapter.
…so no little black dress or fancy cocktail for me tonight. I’m having leftovers from last night’s Thai dinner, sipping green tea and snacking on dried papaya while composing a sexy trade fair flyer.
