At lunch me and my entrepreneur friend were talking about the 5 things that people should know about you.
It’s personal branding 101 – but it works equally well if you work for a company and want to make yourself known for certain things.
Think about it: if I ask you what’s so special about your friend Anna, you would easily be able to tell me a few things off the top of head. For example: she’s an accountant, she is the mother of two boys, she likes to run, she is crazy about The Rolling Stones and she has four dogs.
That gives anyone a good idea of her values, of who she is and – from a marketing point of view – what she’d be interested in buying.
stephanie in a nutshell
My list would probably look something like this:
- Founder of kAAKAO chocolate
- Health entrepreneur who creates recipes for HELPINGS
- Active yogi
- Work for the greater good and like to improve things
- Live in London, born and bred in Finland
What then – alignment!
The following task is then to make sure that everything (well, most things…) that you do, write about and share things about are in line with your five things. Mind you, this is irrelevant if you DON’T care about your personal brand.
But I think many of us do, on some level, and it won’t exactly hurt you to educate the people around you. In fact, it will only make it easier for creepy Google, annoying ads and ultimately your friends, colleagues and family to offer you things that you’re interested in and that you really want to hear more about.
What would your list look like?
